'Real' James Bond's Collection For Sale
Auctioneers Lyon & Turnbull have held a very special sale of rare books from the collection of Sir Fitzroy '007' Macleans, widely regarded as Ian Flemings influence for the character of James Bond. The collection includes many first editions including Casino Royale, Moonraker, Dr No and From Russia with Love.
Sir Charles McLean, son of Fitzroy said: "The books have been in my father's library since he died in 1996, and the family decided they should be sold so that they can be treasured by a collector of Ian Fleming's works. They gave my father much pleasure and I hope they will bring someone else the same". (Lyon & Turnbull)
The novels, valued at £20,000, have sold for £31,200, although in reality the items themselves raised £26,000 and the rest was thanks to the auctioneers commision.
